Kochavim Update, August 14th
As the week and summer come to a close Kochavim is remebering all the fun things that we did this week! The kids have been enjoying all of the regular programming of camp in Shira(singing), Rikud (dancing), and Sport. They've also been placed in various Chuggim (elective activities) such as Boating, Omanut (arts and crafts) and Photography. This week is packed with lots of special festivities that all the campers are enjoying. The Zimkudiah, our annual song and dance festival, took place last night and Kochavim shined like that stars they are during our dance which was preformed in front of the whole camp. Read more...

Ilanot Update, August 12th
I just returned from Ilanot's breakfast in the woods! Although we had to cancel the sleeping outside part of our etgar, we still managed to keep the rest of the fun activities. Last night we played Teva games in the woods and ended our night with a bonfire, singing, and roasted marsh mellows. Somehow one of the counselors decided it would be fun to have a marsh mellow roasting "contest" - and the counselors would be the judges! I can't tell you who makes the best roasted marsh mellow, but I can tell you that I tried a lot of them! :) Read more...

Solelim Update, August 11th
Dear Solelim Families, Solelim had a particularly meaningful Tisha B’Av (Ninth of Av) yesterday. Along with the rest of the camp, we saw “Praying With Lior”, a movie about Lior, a boy with Down syndrome, and his spiritual life. It was a beautiful and insightful movie and we were lucky enough to meet its producer, Ilana Trachtman. Ilana shared the reasons why she asked Lior’s family if she could make a movie about his bar-mitzvah and answered campers’ many questions about Lior, his life and the movie. I believe the experience was an invaluable one for our campers. Read more...

Magshimim Update, August 11th
We're enjoying this last week here in Magshimim and gearing up for all kinds of fun activities. Yesterday we commemorated Tisha B'av which is a Fast day where we remember the destruction of the temple, and a lot of the campers really got into the spirit of the day. Yesterday we had the rare opportunity to celebrate the B'not Mitzvah of Lara Davidson and Maya Levy. We had a service this morning where they both read from the torah and gave a speech, and at the end of the service we had a wonderful breakfast sponsored by the Davidson and Levy families. Dear Solelim Families, Solelim has just had an amazing Yom Meyuchad (Special Day)!! Today was Yom Sim City (Sim City Day) and Solelim campers worked together to build the first city in Israel after 40 years in the desert. The day began with an obstacle course traveling through the desert from Egypt and continued with an activity where campers chose a part of the city to work on. The choices included building the city’s buildings, creating a campaign for the city’s mayor, creating shops for the city’s economy, and creating the city’s own sport. Read more...

Ilanot Update, August 7th
Ilanot just completed what was possibly the best Yom Meyuchad I have ever seen! It was called Yom UPS - and while the acronym commonly refers to the United Parcel Service, today it was even more than that. It was an Unbelievable, Perfect, and Super day! The theme for our day really was all about UPS. Our edah was broken up into four teams - the gray team, the blue team, the red team, and the green team. Each team's slogan was "What can gray/green/blue/red do for you?" Read more...

Shoafim Update, August 7th
Hello Shoafim Parents, What a great week! Today was our yom meyuchad (special day) where the shoafim staff got to plan all of the activities. Our theme for the day was yom kef (day of fun) we began the day with a fake-out. One of our counselors is training to be a math teacher. We began the day with a math lesson and told the campers that it was yom math. You should have seen their faces. They were crestfallen (though I think a few were even more excited to spend the day learning math) the sad faces were followed by even more excited faces when they learned the true theme. Read more..

Ilanot Update, August 4th
Ilanot just came back from a really fabulous Israel program, run by our Mishlachat members. We started by learning a little bit about the cities that our mishlachat call home. Then we broke into four groups, and each went to different stations. At one station, Yuval taught us his favorite childhood game called Three Sticks. [On a side note, I remember learning this same game when I was a kid, from my camp's mishlachat members!] The game is a simple one, but still challenging. It involves leaping over three sticks, separated at different intervals. Ask your kids how to play it when they get home! Read more...

Shoafim Update, August 4th
Dear Shoafim parents, We have had a great start to week 7! Shabbat was, as usual, an excellent opportunity for rest, relaxation, and hanging out with friends. Saturday morning services were so good I had to reward the campers with extra free time that afternoon. We ended Shabbat with a side wide havdallah. It is really nice to see one giant circle with everyone from kochavim through shoafim singing to ease the end of Shabbat. Sunday was a rare day at camp, a yom ragil! (regular day) it was nice to go to our regular activities. We got to enjoy the end of our chug, (acitivities) and Tarbut Yehudit (Jewish cultural activities) so that we could start a new rotation today. Read more...

Solelim Update, July 31st
Dear Solelim Families, Along with the rest of Tzad Aleph (A-Side), Solelim had a great day at the Franklin Park Zoo today. The weather was beautiful and we enjoyed seeing the various animals in the zoo. Especially of interest were the newborn giraffe and wildabeast babies. While checking in with many of the Solelimers throughout the day, I learned that the gorillas were very cool and that the giraffes had incredibly long tongues! Throughout the day the hanichim (campers) worked on a photo scavenger hunt throughout the zoo. Tasks on their list included finding (and taking a picture of) a kosher animal and explaining what made it kosher and photographing a butterfly and telling a story about that butterfly’s life if it lived at Machane Ramah (Camp Ramah). We came back to camp for a barbecue dinner and, continuing our animal theme of the day, watched the Lion King. An unusual treat at camp, the movie was a welcome rest after a busy day outside. Ilanot Update, July 29th
The sun has been shining, and Ilanot has been smiling! Last night I had the distinct pleasure of sharing one of my favorite pastimes with my edah. Together we read "The Keeping Quilt" by Patricia Polacco, and I shared a quilt that I made with the campers. Then we designed (and decorated squares for) a quilt that we will make and donate to camp. Each camper made a square with a camp memory on it, and over the next few weeks, I will sew it up and make quilts. Bogrim Update, July 25th
Hey parents! This is the first week of second session and despite the rainy weather we are having a blast! The campers have all signed up for their new chugim, sports and Berkshires teams. Between Berkshires, omanut (art), archery, soccer, iton (newspaper) and all the other great activities, everyone is having so much fun! We have just re-started our Bogrim Buddies program- an optional one on one opportunity for our campers to make friends, play and bond with some of our Amitizim (special needs) campers twice a week. Last night we had a great Peulat Erev where the kids left their marks on camp with Bench painting. Each bunk got to design and paint a bench that will be in our moadon and/or around camp for years to come. As of now we are now just winding down from a new and busy week and preparing for our first Shabbat of second session.
